RAZZAK VITAL

August 23, 2012

The coach of the Bangladesh Cricket team, Richard Pybus, has said that Shakib Al Hasan and Abdur Razzak could be vital for the Bangladesh team in the upcoming World T20 Championship. As per Pybus, Shakib and Razzak are experienced spinners and they know how to use the subcontinent conditions to good effect. Razzak has performed brilliantly in the recent T20 series against Ireland. Razzak played in all the three T20 matches and took 5 wickets at an average of 14.40.

Pybus also praised the young left arm spinner Elias Sunny. Sunny also bowled well in the Ireland series and was the highest wicket taker for Bangladesh in that series. He took 8 wickets in 3 matches. Pybus said that Sunny is an old fashioned left arm spinner who likes to flight the ball and deceive the batsmen in the air. He also has a very good arm bowl. The Bangladeshi fast bowlers were not able to perform that well on the Ireland tour. Mashrafe Mortaza took four wickets in the third match, but, apart from him, no other fast bowler bowled in the right areas. On being asked about that, Pybus said that the fast bowlers were not able to control the swing with the new ball. As per Pybus, it was nice to see Mashrafe Mortaza bowling well again. He has struggled a lot with the injuries in the last few years, but, he is a very tough character. He has made a fantastic comeback in the team and hopefully, he would carry on his good form in World T20 Championship as well.

On being asked about the performance of the Bangladeshi batsmen in Ireland, Pybus said that he is satisfied with the performance of the batsmen on the Ireland tour. The conditions in Ireland were not easy for batting, but, the batsmen showed maturity and batted well in the series.

Razzak on Form

July 24, 2012

The left arm orthodox spinner of Bangladesh, Abdur Razzak, has performed brilliantly in the recently played T20 series of three matches between Bangladesh and Ireland. In the first T20, Razzak bowled brilliantly and gave away only 9 runs in his full quota of 4 overs. In T20 matches, the economy rate up to 8 runs per over are quite acceptable. So, to bowl with an economy rate of 2.25 runs per over in a T20 game is incredible.

For the Irish batsmen, it was very tough to negotiate Razzak. He was bowling with an accurate line and length, so, it was quite difficult to play the ball in the gaps and rotate the strike regularly. Also, Razzak was so quick through the air that the Irish batsmen can’t go down the track to loft him over the top. Not only Razzak, all the Bangladeshi spinners were quite hard to play for the Irish Guys. Another left arm spinner, Elias Sunny, took 5 wickets for 13 runs in the 1st T20 game. Apart from that, the other spinners Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah also gave Irish batsmen a tough time in the series. Bangladesh whitewashed Ireland and won the series 3-0. The Irish batsmen have to work on their skills of playing spin. In all the three matches, they got into a tangle as soon as a spinner came into the attack.

On being asked about such impressive performance of the team, Razzak said that winning the series by 3-0 is a great result for his team. As per Razzak, it’s true that Ireland is a low ranked team, but the domination with which Bangladesh has played in the series is an encouraging sign for the Bangladesh cricket. He said that the World T20 Championship is going to be held in Sri Lanka, where the conditions would be spinner friendly. If the Bangladeshi spinners continue bowling well, Bangladesh would do well in the World T20 Championship.

Razzack relishes call up

June 8, 2012

Bangladeshi cricketer Abdur Razzak who is an orthodox left arm spinner, is his national most successful one day international bowler of all time having taken a record one hundred and seventy five wickets in the one hundred and twenty six matches he has played in.

Although the bowler has only managed just nine test matches for his country this is partially due to the Countries loos of test match status for a number of periods throughout their cricketing history. The Left arm bowler has also appeared in the Indian Premier League having played in the 2008 competition for Royal Challengers Bangalore, where the Bangladeshi international made just one appearance, but benefitted from coach and captain, Anil Kumble who played for the Indian national team as a fellow spin bowler.

Razzack has been called up to play in the un-official twenty 20 tournament, which will be a tri nation format between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The Bangladesh team start their campaign in Harare on June 18th against the host nation. The Bangladesh squad includes the return of Mohammad Ashraful who has been recalled by the selectors to represent the country he previously captained. Razzack believes this to be a positive inclusion and is looking forward to meeting up with his team mate, who he believes to be one of the best players Bangladeshi cricket has produced over its recent history.

Razzack who is now twenty nine is hoping to recapture his form ahead of the series and is looking forward to playing an important role for his country hoping they can upset the odds and win the tri-nation tournament over favourites South Africa who the majority feel have too much quality for their opponents.

RAZZAK STRUGGLES ON

March 16, 2012

It seems to be quite a difficult phase for Abdur Razzak at present after being axed out by the selection committee for the 14 man squad to represent Bangladesh in the test series against West Indies. Abdur has not been faring well and his performance has not been up to the mark in the last few games and this has finally reflected on the selection. There have been other players as well who have been denied entry into the team squad for the Test match and all have been removed on grounds of inability to perform despite being given a number of chances.

Abdur Razzak needs to realize that Bangladesh needs to put in their best team strength if they want to put up a tough fight against the West Indies. There is no leniency in the game of cricket when it comes to competing with some of the best in the business. Abdur Razzak and even former captain Ashraful have been unable to put in their level best in the last few matches and hence have been finally given a dismissal from the latest squad.

Abdur Razzak needs to realize that the focus and attention will only come if he manages to put on a great deal of improvement in the practice sessions and this might go on to motivate the selectors and coaches to realize that Abdur still has it in him to perform better and eventually will be given a chance to perform and will be put back in the team. Till then he should not lose hope and should focus on his game rather than criticizing and lamenting upon the fact that he was unable to make it to the final 14. There’s a lot left in the future if this one’s missed out on.
