MORE MATCHES

The Bangladeshi all rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, has said that his team should play more test matches in future.

Bangladesh doesn’t play as many test matches as some of the other teams. They have played just 4 test matches in the last 18 months.

Bangladesh is currently the lowest ranked team in test match cricket. They haven’t won a test match in the last 4 years.

The last time that they had come victorious in the longest format of the game was against West Indies in July 2009.

When asked about Bangladesh’s poor performance in test match cricket, Shakib said, “Yes, it’s definitely a concern. We haven’t been able to be competitive in test match cricket. In limited overs cricket, we have done well in the last few years and have defeated some big teams, but, in 5-day cricket, we have struggled.”

“One of the reasons behind it is that we don’t play test cricket that much and that obstructs the development of our players. We need to play more and more test matches. That’s the only way we are going to improve.”

When asked if he would consider taking over the captaincy again in future, Shakib said, “I am not thinking about it at the moment. I am happy serving the team as a player only. I don’t know about the future. If the opportunity comes my way, I might give it a thought. But, at this point of time, I just want to be consistent as a player.”

When asked if it’s good to have different captains for different formats of the game, Shakib said, “I don’t think so to be honest. As a player, you don’t want to play under different captains. If there is one captain, you get familiar with his personality, but, that’s not the case when there are 2 or 3 captains.”
