HASAN ENJOYED BATTING

November 14, 2012

The former captain of Bangladesh cricket team, Shakib Al Hasan, has said that he enjoyed batting at no. 3 in the World T20 Championship and he would like to continue batting at the same position in the limited over formats of the game.

Shakib generally used to bat in the middle order in the ODI and T20 matches for Bangladesh. But, in the World T20 Championship, the Bangladesh team management decided to promote Shakib in the batting order. Shakib looked quite comfortable batting up the order and he played a brilliant knock of 84 runs in the group stage match against Pakistan.

When asked whether he is happy with his new batting position in the T20s, Shakib said, “Yes, I am happy with my promotion in the batting order. When you bat in the top order, you get a bit of time to settle down and then, you can play your shots in the death overs.”

When asked about his inning against Pakistan, Shakib said, “We needed to win the match by a big margin to qualify for the super 8 round. We lost some early wickets, but, we had to keep playing aggressive shots. It was very hard to go after Saeed Ajmal, so, I decided to attack the fast bowlers of Pakistan and they helped me by bowling some wayward deliveries.”

When asked about the overall performance of Bangladesh in the World T20 Championship, Shakib said, “The team should have played much better cricket.  Our spinners were out of nick in both the matches and that was the main reason why we didn’t do well in the competition.”

“Our fielding was also not good in the competition. We dropped quite a few catches and you can’t afford to do that when you are playing against the top international teams.”
