DHONI BLAMES SHOT SELECTION

June 6, 2013

The captain of the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni, has said that the poor shot selection by the batsmen proved to be costly for his team in the final match of IPL 6 which was played on Sunday.

Chennai super Kings were beaten by Mumbai Indians in that final match by 23 runs.

Mumbai Indians had set a target of 149 for CSK. On that flat track at Eden Gardens, that target was looking like a gettable one.

But, most of the CSK batsmen played rash shots and put their team into trouble.

Dhoni tried to rescue his team with some big hits at the end, but, his effort didn’t prove to be good enough. His team lost the final yet again.

Talking to Ravi Shastri in the presentation ceremony, Dhoni said, “Our batsmen couldn’t rise to the occasion. It was important to go through that early burst of Johnson and Malinga. The target was not a big one. So, we could afford to play a couple of quiet overs. But, we went for the aggressive shots and threw our wickets away.”

“With the ball, we did well I think. We got wickets at regular intervals and never let them tee off. It was a very good surface to bat on, so, anything below 150 was very gettable.”

When asked about his side’s performance in the entire season, Dhoni said, “This was one of our best seasons in the IPL. We had bought some good players in the auction earlier this year. So, our team was much stronger for this season. We played well in every condition and qualified easily for the play offs. It was a wonderful campaign.”

CSK played a total of 18 matches in IPL 6 out of which they won 12.
